The Commander of the Military Development Unit confirmed that over 100 bunkers along the Chanthaburi-Trat border are strong and safe, fully completed and operational. He denied that the images shown are related to construction by the unit.
On 3 Aug 2026 GMT+7, General Sarawut Chanphum, Commander of the Military Development Unit, addressed the case where Chat Supattarawanich, MP for Nakhon Ratchasima from the People’s Party and Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Military Commission, planned to submit a request for the commission to inspect the quality and cost-effectiveness of bunker construction in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces. Evidence photos showing the condition of military bunkers in these provinces were also presented. General Sarawut stated that the unit is responsible for constructing 100 bunkers for border defense forces, funded with 15,418,700 baht from the Hathayathip Fund (Phase 2). Installation is 100% complete: 54 bunkers in Burapha forces, 8 in Suranaree forces, and 38 in Chanthaburi-Trat border defense forces, all currently operational.
The Commander added that the bunkers built by the Military Development Unit use quality concrete panels from SCG, which are stable and strong enough to withstand impacts from 81mm mortar shells. He affirmed that the bunkers are solid, safe, and secure because of the high-quality materials used. Personnel currently using them have confidence in their safety.
Regarding complaints about the quality and cost-effectiveness of bunker construction in Chanthaburi and Trat, General Sarawut said these were definitely not built by the Military Development Unit. The unit prioritizes the safety of border personnel and overall security. Therefore, he confirmed that the Military Development Unit has no involvement whatsoever with those cases.
