Government Opens Way to Establish Schools for the Elderly Nationwide Following New Regulations to Enhance Quality of Life

The government is paving the way to set up "Schools for the Elderly" nationwide after the Royal Gazette published new guidelines aimed at promoting and enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens.

4 Aug 2026 GMT+7 Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykon The Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister stated that the government has been continuously advancing policies to prepare for an aging society. Recently, the Royal Gazette published the Department of Older Persons' announcement regarding the establishment of Schools for the Elderly, B.E. 2569 (2026). This serves as a unified national framework to promote and improve the quality of life for senior citizens at the community level.

. This announcement marks a significant step that will allow local administrative organizations and communities to easily establish "Schools for the Elderly" with clearer operational guidelines. These schools can be designed to align with the real lifestyles of seniors, helping to strengthen their physical and mental health and encouraging social participation, while also developing their potential and protecting their rights.

The Deputy Government Spokesperson further explained that the establishment process begins by gathering elderly people in each area, then forming a working committee to plan and design activities that meet the community's needs. Examples include health care, digital skills development, supplementary income generation, and social engagement activities. Moreover, private sector entities, community organizations, or local authorities interested in promoting this initiative can immediately use these new guidelines as a reference for establishment and operation nationwide.
