The government is advancing the public health system by introducing technology to reduce inequality, launching the “AI Psoriasis” system to screen psoriasis via photographs with up to 95% accuracy.
On 4 August 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Lakshamisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, stated that the government is upgrading public health services through technology to enable related health agencies to integrate digital tools that strengthen the health system, enhance public health capabilities, and promote health innovation. The goal is to provide the public with convenient, fast, and equitable access to health services by using technology to reduce disparities in healthcare access, in line with the Ministry of Public Health's MOPH PLUS+ policy.
Ms. Ploytale said the Dermatology Institute, Department of Medical Services, developed “AI Psoriasis” to analyze redness, thickness, and scaling of psoriasis lesions from photographs to standardize and speed up assessments, especially in areas lacking resident dermatologists. Testing on research datasets showed the AI Psoriasis system achieved an accuracy of up to 95%.
However, further testing is needed in real-world settings and among more diverse populations. Initially, the system will be piloted in health units and networks collaborating with the Dermatology Institute, focusing on areas ready in terms of personnel, data systems, and patient referral processes.
“Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting physical health, mental health, and quality of life. It is also linked to major comorbidities such as psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Certain clinical features of psoriasis lesions can be analyzed from photographs. The “AI Psoriasis” system is an innovation that helps people access screening near their homes, reducing travel burdens and enabling appropriate and faster referral to specialists. It also serves as a prototype for developing tools to support care of other skin diseases in the future.”
