Atsit ordered an investigation into which agency caused citizens' data to be leaked widely on social media. He believes the leak is unlikely to have come from the Land Transport Department because the images are from identity cards, not driving licenses.
On 4 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Atsit Sampantrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, said in an interview about the personal data revealed on the internet that he personally has no data leaked except for a photograph. He therefore suspects the leak came from an agency other than the Ministry of Interior.
Asked if he personally felt no damage had occurred from the data leak, Atsit confirmed that no harm has been suffered since only a photograph was exposed. However, it is necessary to investigate which agency the image leaked from, and that agency must take responsibility for the data breach.
Atsit emphasized that the leak likely did not originate from the Ministry of Interior but rather from another agency, since if it had come from the Ministry, the leaked information would have been different. He confirmed no legal action will be taken yet because no harm has occurred. If a lawsuit is to be filed, the responsible agency that caused the leak must first be identified.
Regarding suspicions that the data leak came from the Land Transport Department, Atsit confirmed he has never conducted transactions with that department. His driving license is a lifetime type, and the leaked image is from his identity card, not his driving license. Thus, he suspects the image was leaked from inserting the identity card during transactions at places such as airports.
Atsit also stated that initially, three agencies can access the data without inserting an identity card: the Royal Thai Police, the Security Center, and the Election Commission. He has ordered an investigation to determine which agency the data leak originated from.
