The Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society revealed that a complaint has been filed with the Technology Crime Suppression Division against those who illegally disseminate personal data, which opens the door for scammers to misuse it. He stressed penalties include up to 5 years in prison and fines up to 100,000 baht.
On 4 August 2026, Ms. Nan Boonthida Somchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DE), stated that Minister Chaiyachon Chidchob has issued a policy to prevent and combat online crime, particularly the illegal dissemination of personal data, which scammers exploit for online criminal activities. The directive is to monitor and prevent illegal data dissemination and to promptly enforce legal actions against offenders.
Ms. Nan Boonthida said that in cases where personal data is shared on social media without consent, the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) has been assigned to thoroughly investigate the facts of such dissemination, coordinating closely with the National Cybersecurity Committee (NCSC).
Furthermore, the Ministry of DE has considered filing a complaint with the Technology Crime Suppression Division to initiate legal proceedings under the Computer Crime Act.
“The Ministry of DE warns the public that spreading illegal information on social media violates Section 14 of the Computer Crime Act, covering offenses such as inputting distorted or false data, data affecting national security, the economy, or causing public panic, etc. The penalty is imprisonment of up to 5 years, a fine up to 100,000 baht, or both,” the Deputy Minister of DE stated.
