The Prime Minister concluded his Indonesia visit by upgrading the strategic partnership and promoting trade and investment in four areas, aiming for benefits that the public can truly experience.
On 4 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed the results of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul’s official visit to the Republic of Indonesia from 3–4 August 2026 GMT+7.
The Indonesian government gave the Prime Minister a distinguished welcome, with the Indonesian President personally seeing him off at the airport, reflecting the trust and close friendship between the leaders, which will facilitate swift and effective coordination and cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions successfully met their goals, including upgrading the strategic partnership, expanding trade and investment opportunities, enhancing security, and advancing Thailand’s role in ASEAN while supporting peaceful solutions to the Myanmar situation.
The outcomes of this visit will benefit the people in four key areas: expanded markets and business opportunities, increased investment and employment, stronger transnational crime prevention, and regional stability conducive to economic growth and well-being.
The Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson stated that the talks between the Prime Minister and Mr. Prabowo covered cooperation in all dimensions, with both sides agreeing to accelerate practical implementation of the strategic partnership by linking the strengths of Thailand and Indonesia, two major economies and ASEAN founding members, to create new opportunities for citizens and businesses.
Regarding the economy and people’s livelihoods, Thailand and Indonesia will deepen and broaden cooperation in trade and investment, building on existing industries toward new potential sectors, including food, halal products, energy, tourism, green economy, and supply chain connectivity.
This cooperation will open Thai goods and services to Indonesia’s large market, offering opportunities especially for small and medium enterprises, while attracting investment, stimulating economic activity, and creating jobs domestically. The goal is to raise bilateral trade value from nearly USD 20 billion to USD 23 billion in the near future.
The Prime Minister also attended the Indonesia–Thailand Business Forum to engage directly with Indonesian private sector representatives and witnessed the exchange of four MOUs between Thai and Indonesian businesses covering tourism, carbon markets, and economic cooperation, transitioning government-level relations into concrete business and investment projects.
"The government’s objective is not merely to increase trade figures but to expand markets for Thai entrepreneurs, enable farmers and producers to sell more, grow tourism and service sectors, and provide stable jobs and incomes for the people," the spokesperson said. Another key achievement was exchanging the Thai–Indonesian Strategic Partnership Action Plan, which will serve as a roadmap setting directions and monitoring mechanisms for bilateral cooperation to ensure that agreements between leaders move beyond discussions to tangible projects benefiting the public.
Additionally, both sides exchanged MOUs on education cooperation to promote academic collaboration, research, student and staff exchanges, and skills development aligned with the modern economy, enhancing educational opportunities, workforce development, and Thailand’s long-term competitiveness.
On public safety, Thailand and Indonesia agreed to increase collaboration on preventing and combating transnational crime through law enforcement, information sharing, and coordination among relevant agencies.
This cooperation will enable both countries to respond more swiftly and effectively to threats directly affecting citizens, including online scams, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and criminal networks moving people, money, and assets across borders.
The spokesperson further noted that the visit was significant for advancing Thailand’s role in ASEAN. The Prime Minister met with the ASEAN Secretary-General to exchange views on the region’s direction amid global economic volatility and security challenges.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Thailand will proactively maintain ASEAN’s unity and centrality, while promoting cooperation that addresses people’s needs, including food and energy security, digital economy, cross-border threat management, and ensuring all groups benefit from regional growth.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister also presented Thailand’s vision for ASEAN’s future, proposing three key directions: preserving ASEAN unity, strengthening resilience and crisis response capacity, and centering development on the people.
Regarding the situation in Myanmar, the Prime Minister reiterated Thailand’s support for resolving the crisis according to ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus, acting as a constructive neighboring country to promote dialogue among all parties, support humanitarian aid, and coordinate with ASEAN members to restore peace and stability in Myanmar.
Resolving the Myanmar situation is directly relevant to Thailand as it helps reduce border security risks, curb crime and illegal migration, revive cross-border trade, and create an environment conducive to investment, tourism, and local livelihoods.
Meanwhile, Thailand will incorporate the outcomes and vision from this visit into preparations for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2028 CE, focusing on agendas that deliver real results to the people and strengthen ASEAN’s long-term resilience.
"The success of this visit will not be measured by ceremonies or the number of agreements alone, but by new markets for Thai products, increased investment and jobs, educational opportunities for the younger generation, enhanced safety from transnational crime, and greater regional stability. The government will promptly follow up on all agreements to turn discussions into benefits that the public can genuinely experience," the spokesperson said. Ms. Ratchada concluded.
