Sanphet Pushes Forward with Development of Siriraj Railway Land into Medical Wellness Hub

Sanphet is moving forward with developing 22 rai of State Railway land in the Siriraj area into a Medical Wellness Hub linked to Siriraj Hospital, aiming to open bidding by the end of this year. Construction is expected to take approximately 3-4 years.

On 4 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Sanphet Boonyamanee, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed after visiting the site with executives of SRT Asset Company Limited (SRTA) to monitor development plans for State Railway of Thailand (SRT) land near Thonburi and Siriraj stations. The 22-rai land, adjacent to Siriraj Hospital, currently serves as housing for 318 railway employee households, totaling over 1,000 people. The concept is to develop the site into a Medical Wellness Hub to support future expansion of medical and health services, potentially including specialized treatment centers such as cancer care, comprehensive health centers, health promotion hubs, and facilities for railway staff healthcare. Details may be adjusted following discussions with Siriraj medical faculty to best meet future medical needs.

Regarding investment models, consideration is ongoing with two to three main approaches: inviting private sector investment to develop the project, then leasing to Siriraj Hospital for management; or private-public partnerships with Siriraj in joint development. This project extends the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept by leveraging the site’s connectivity to transport and medical services for maximum benefit. The project aims to accelerate progress, at least initiating procedures under the current government by the end of 2026, with construction expected to take 3-4 years. The entire 22-rai area will be developed in the first phase.

Sanphet added that despite the current economic slowdown, confidence remains high in private sector interest due to the global trend in health and elder care businesses, including wellness and longevity sectors. Furthermore, the site’s prime location near Siriraj Hospital and just 400 meters from the BTS station offers excellent public transport connectivity, making it ready for development as a new national medical and health center.
