The Democrat Party is preparing to push a Continuous Crime Prevention Bill focusing on "robbery, murder, and rape." Repeat offenders will receive no sentence reduction, aiming to restore social peace and normalcy.
On 5 Aug 2026 GMT+7, at the Democrat Party headquarters, spokesperson Pongsakorn Kwanmuang outlined the party's approach to tackling crime. Referencing the "Five-Murder Case of Mr. Pong and Mr. Thong," he said the current legal leniency and gaps have effectively granted criminals a license to reoffend, causing public anxiety. The Democrat Party will expedite the Continuous Crime Prevention Bill to close these loopholes, based on three main principles: 1. Controlling three serious offenses—murder, rape, and robbery—which severely impact life and property; 2. For a first offense, proceed with normal justice processes and issue a warning, but on a second offense, administrative authorities, prison officials, and the Ministry of Justice are strictly prohibited from recommending sentence reductions or royal pardons; 3. If a third offense occurs, courts must impose the maximum penalty without any mitigation.
"Robbery, murder, and rape" will not be subject to sentence reductions.
"While some may view this bill as lacking mercy toward offenders, the most important responsibility of society and the law is to protect innocent lives so they can live normally without fear or becoming victims of repeated crimes. The party will seek input from the public and all sectors to refine the bill thoroughly, aiming to enact it effectively to restore safety and create a society where citizens no longer live cautiously.
