The Army Spokesperson clarified the case where an MP displayed images of military bunkers, confirming these were funded as part of tactical area development. They urged the Military Committee to verify the facts before public release.
On 5 Aug 2026 at Army Headquarters, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army Spokesperson, addressed the case of an MP holding a press conference presenting images of military bunkers to the public. He explained these images show bunkers along the border in Trat Province, which are part of urgent development and improvement of tactical strongholds to enhance security. This work was done before the second round of clashes, covering installation of obstacles, communication systems, and other necessary elements to ensure personnel safety following tactical principles.
Regarding the budget, the Army Spokesperson clarified that the funds were allocated for overall development and readiness of the stronghold, not exclusively for building bunkers or personnel pits. Rushing to conclude and present the data as solely bunker construction caused public misunderstanding and led to harsh criticism of the agency.
“The army understands and respects the public’s concern for soldiers on duty. However, drawing quick conclusions without verifying facts with the agency first can lead most people to wrongly believe there is intent to shame, which appears well-meaning but is actually harmful,” said Major General Winthai.
The Army Spokesperson concluded that if there are doubts or complaints, the Military Committee of the House of Representatives should be used to hold meetings, gather information from all parties, and thoroughly verify facts according to parliamentary procedures before communicating publicly. This ensures accurate and complete information, leading to genuine joint development.
