The Democrat Party declared its readiness to aggressively question the government after passing the 2027 budget bill at its third reading, focusing on ministers Supachai and Supanit, and warning the two not to use their positions to build personal prestige.
On 5 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Chaiyachana Dechadecho, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the Democrat Party, said the opposition coalition must wait for the Prachachon Party to submit the no-confidence motion. The first step is to complete the third reading of the 2027 annual budget bill, after which the no-confidence debate can proceed. Further discussions will be held within the opposition coalition.
Chaiyachana pointed to the government's weaknesses by targeting Commerce Minister Supachai Suthumphand and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Supanit Nitithanprapas. He noted that although oil prices have fallen, product prices have not decreased. He also raised issues regarding farmers' compensation and preparations for the upcoming fruit price situation in the southern region.
“Supanit, Supachai, work for the nation, not to build your own prestige. Besides failing to solve problems, look at how you manage your ministries. I hear there are conflicts with permanent officials and policy issues. Finally, drink plenty of cod liver oil; it will help your brain function better to manage the country going forward,” Chaiyachana said.
Asked whether this interpellation battle might topple the government or shift political power, Chaiyachana said such outcomes depend on two factors: whether the budget bill fails or whether the government loses its majority support. It will depend on the information the opposition reveals in parliament and whether coalition parties agree. He affirmed that the Democrat Party, Kla Tham Party, and Prachachon Party will act in unison. The no-confidence debate, expected in September to October, will not be mere theater but will expose previously unrevealed information.
Regarding rumors of political power shifts, Chaiyachana declined to comment, calling them media rumors. He said the Democrat Party has not held such talks. Similarly, Captain Thammanat Prompao, leader of the Kla Tham Party, and the Prachachon Party also denied any negotiation to change the power balance. He concluded by urging the two ministers to quickly procure cod liver oil and vitamin C to enhance their effectiveness in addressing the people's livelihood issues.
