Sihasak is preparing to call a meeting of the Special Government Representatives on 11 Aug to promote unity in all aspects. He warned Malaysia to ensure that no perpetrators are present, following Malaysian security officials’ denial that any suspects are in their territory.
At 11:50 a.m. on 5 Aug 2026 at the Government House, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke about the unrest in the three southern border provinces. He said that during his official visit to Indonesia, this issue was not discussed because Thailand wants to resolve the matter internally first. Meanwhile, Malaysia has acted as the facilitator in the southern border peace talks, although the process is currently stalled due to ongoing incidents. He emphasized the need to review Thailand's internal situation to assess the sincerity of the other side. He announced a Special Government Representatives meeting on 11 Aug to unify efforts across security, economy, peace talks, and education.
When asked about Malaysian security police denying that perpetrators had fled to Malaysia, Mr. Sihasak said the matter needs to be discussed further, and Thailand must request Malaysia's cooperation. He added, "Let's hope there are none."
When pressed whether Malaysia requires Thailand to provide evidence of perpetrators hiding there, Mr. Sihasak responded that Thailand has individuals subject to arrest warrants but is not accusing Malaysia of harboring them. Rather, Thailand seeks assistance in tracking their whereabouts and sharing any leads or information.
