The Cabinet approved the appointment of a national committee to prepare for hosting the Gastech 2026, a major global conference and exhibition on energy technology and innovation.
On 5 August 2026, Ms. Ploytale Lakshmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that the Cabinet approved the Ministry of Energy’s proposal to appoint a national committee to prepare for hosting the Gastech Exhibition & Conference 2026 (Gastech 2026). This event is one of the world’s largest annual academic conferences and exhibitions on energy technology and innovation. It serves as a key forum for policy discussions and exchanges among leaders from government and private sectors, policymakers, academics, energy industry experts, and investors globally. The topics include natural gas technology, liquefied natural gas, hydrogen fuel, clean energy, and artificial intelligence technology. Previous Gastech hosts have been energy-leading countries such as the United States, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, South Korea, and Singapore. The most recent event was held in Italy in 2025 with over 50,000 participants from 150 countries.
Ms. Ploytale stated that Thailand, through the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), submitted a bid and was selected to host Gastech 2026. The Ministry of Energy will co-host the event with the Bureau. The conference is scheduled for 14–17 September 2026 in Bangkok. It is expected to attract approximately 50 energy ministers and international organization leaders, along with policymakers, academics, energy industry experts, and investors from 150 countries, totaling around 50,000 attendees.
To ensure Thailand is well-prepared to host Gastech 2026, it was deemed necessary to establish a national committee as a mechanism to coordinate and drive activities among relevant agencies. These include protocol and administration, public relations, security, and traffic management. The committee will comprise representatives from both public and private sectors, chaired by the Minister of Energy, with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy as vice-chair.
