Supachai revealed that the royal cremation preparations are progressing as planned, expected to be completed by October, along with improvements to the crematorium's architecture.
On 5 August 2026, Mrs. Supachai Suthampan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, chaired the first 2026 meeting of the committee overseeing the construction of the royal crematorium, its associated structures, and the restoration of the royal chariots and palanquins for the royal cremation ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Minister of Culture, department heads, the Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, and experts attended the meeting.
The Fine Arts Department reported that construction inside and around the ceremony area at Sanam Luang, as well as the decorative arts on the crematorium, are proceeding according to plan. Completion is expected by October 2026. Restoration of the royal chariots and palanquins is slated for completion by September 2026 to prepare for rehearsals of the royal procession. The royal urn, sandalwood coffin, and ceremonial items are expected to be finished by November 2026.
Mrs. Supachai also spoke about the first 2026 royal cremation ceremony for Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Thepyawadi, Krom Luang Rajsarinisiri Phat Maha Vajiraratchathida. The Fine Arts Department proposed architectural adjustments to the crematorium elements to align with her royal rank and duties. For example, the crematorium's spire will be changed to the "Phra Saptapadorn Sewat Chat" (seven-tiered white umbrella), with a seven-tiered layered roof. The roof color and royal cypher will use a brick red tone. The gable will feature the royal cypher "P.P." prominently in the center, emphasizing the main color tone of orange, which corresponds to her birth day (Thursday).
The landscape architecture will feature orange and yellow flowering plants. The symmetrical layout reflects her identity as a precise legal professional. The design of a calm, still water pond symbolizes her steady military character and also represents the Friends Helping Project (Puen Phueng (Pa)) that aids the underprivileged. The government will present these details to His Majesty the King for royal approval.
