The Prime Minister held full delegation talks with Myanmar's President, reaffirming friendship and mutual trust while advancing cooperation in all dimensions, accompanied by signing MOUs to enhance labor cooperation, water quality management, and space technology.
At 11:25 a.m. on 6 Aug 2026 GMT+7, in the Green Room of the Thai Khu Fah Building at the Government House, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul held full delegation talks with H.E. Mr. Min Aung Hlaing, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, on the occasion of his official visit to Thailand. Both sides discussed continuing bilateral cooperation across all dimensions, promoting security, economic, trade, investment, energy, development, and cross-border problem-solving for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
Following the talks, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the Prime Minister congratulated the Myanmar President on assuming office and highlighted that the President's choice to visit Thailand early in his term reflects the close friendship and strong ties between the two countries. This relationship is founded on good-neighborliness, mutual trust, and the bond of their peoples. Thailand stands ready to support Myanmar's participation in ASEAN and to jointly continue cooperation for sustainable growth of both nations.
Both sides agreed to maintain positive momentum in bilateral relations through ongoing high-level discussions and exchanges, to push for tangible outcomes from joint statements, and to promote cooperation between their legislative bodies.
On politics and security, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability along the Thailand–Myanmar border and proposed elevating cooperation in security, prevention, and suppression of transnational crimes, especially drug trafficking, online fraud, and money laundering. He also called for strengthening collaboration between relevant agencies of both countries to enhance safety for people and border areas jointly.
Regarding the economy, the Prime Minister stressed that economic cooperation is a core pillar of Thailand–Myanmar relations. He welcomed the reopening of the Second Thailand–Myanmar Friendship Bridge border crossing (Mae Sot–Myawaddy) and proposed that both sides expedite reducing regulatory barriers, facilitating border trade, and improving transport connectivity to revitalize trade and economic activity in border areas. Additionally, Thailand is ready to host the Joint Trade Committee meeting within this year and suggested continuing cooperation in energy, promoting private sector investment, developing payment mechanisms, and advancing the Thailand–Myanmar–regional economic corridor and infrastructure to boost trade, investment, and sustainable growth together.
On labor, the Prime Minister expressed pleasure over signing labor cooperation agreements between Thailand and Myanmar, emphasizing the vital role of Myanmar workers in the Thai economy. He reaffirmed the Thai government's commitment to protecting labor rights and welfare and to promoting lawful employment through close cooperation between the two countries.
On the environment, the Prime Minister highlighted that environmental issues affect the health and well-being of people in both countries, making it a shared responsibility to accelerate concrete cooperation. Both sides will expedite plans to tackle transboundary haze pollution, establish a joint technical working group to address river pollution, and continue collaboration on water resource management and flood prevention to improve environmental quality and living standards in border areas jointly.
Furthermore, Thailand reaffirmed its readiness to be a continuous development partner for Myanmar through cooperation in agriculture, public health, education, human resource development, small and medium enterprises, and the application of space and geospatial technology to support development, disaster management, and environmental problem-solving in practical terms.
In closing, the Prime Minister said this discussion symbolizes Thailand and Myanmar elevating cooperation in all dimensions, expressing confidence that implementing their agreed approaches will yield tangible benefits for the peoples of both countries. He affirmed that Thailand will remain a friendly and supportive partner to Myanmar based on good friendship and shared interests.
After concluding the talks at 12:30 p.m., the Prime Minister and Myanmar President witnessed the signing ceremony of three cooperation documents, namely:
1. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on labor cooperation, and an agreement between the two governments on labor employment.
2. The Terms of Reference (TOR) for the joint working group on managing water quality in the border rivers and rivers flowing between Thailand and Myanmar.
3. A Memorandum of Understanding between the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency and the Myanmar Space Agency on cooperation in the peaceful application of earth observation technologies.
The spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office added that the outcomes of today's cooperation documents demonstrate that Thailand–Myanmar relations extend beyond governmental ties to practical cooperation that addresses issues and benefits the peoples of both countries. This includes labor management, resolving environmental and cross-border water pollution problems, and utilizing space and geospatial technologies for development. These results align with the intentions of both leaders to strengthen Thailand–Myanmar cooperation in all dimensions.
