At 10:40 a.m. on 7 August at the Government House, Deputy Minister of Interior Phonphir Suwannachawi was interviewed about the shooting at Debsirin School in Nonthaburi. He said he had just seen the news and that a report would be made to the Prime Minister. He plans to visit the site to assess the situation. When asked about the shooter being a student with a firearm, Phonphir said they need to investigate how the weapon was acquired and to whom it belongs, but must wait for the situation to stabilize. They will also check the firearm's registration number; otherwise, it is impossible to determine where it was purchased.
He added that the Prime Minister’s policy is clear: licensing must be difficult to obtain. It is still unknown whether the firearm was modified. Therefore, he must verify the facts.
Phonphir said that a team has already been sent to the area, and the province is being urged to report back quickly. He asked for data to be collected on what happened and how many people were injured.
