On 7 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yotsanan Wongsawat visited the site to follow up on the incident where a student at Thepsirin Nonthaburi School used a firearm to shoot teachers and fellow students, causing multiple deaths and injuries. After receiving reports from the school director and related agencies, Yotsanan stated that the event caused severe loss of life and psychological trauma. He asked the media and followers to refrain from presenting images or footage of the incident. Authorities have now brought the situation under control. He requested that the public and media rely on information from the police to ensure accuracy and caution.
Yotsanan further stated that the Ministry of Education has implemented three initial measures, including a temporary closure of the school involved, coinciding with the weekend, to assess the situation and plan safety measures for the surrounding area. The ministry is preparing an official statement to be delivered by the Minister of Education.
For long-term measures, the Ministry of Education is closely coordinating with the Department of Mental Health and the Ministry of Public Health to provide psychological care and recovery support to teachers, students, and parents affected by the incident. They are also working on preventing bullying in schools, while comprehensive fact-finding continues with the police.
Additionally, military personnel led by Lieutenant Colonel Apiyut, with 50 troops, donated blood at Phra Nang Klao Hospital to assist the injured. The public is invited to donate all blood types at the hospital to support those affected by the incident.
Yotsanan emphasized responsible news coverage and social media use, urging the public to avoid sharing images or videos of the incident to respect the rights of the deceased and injured and to prevent additional psychological harm to children and teachers. He confirmed that the Prime Minister and relevant ministers will closely monitor the situation on-site.
