The Prime Minister apologized for the incident in which the "P-Move" group stormed the Ministry of Interior and clashed with the Territorial Defense Volunteers. He explained that on the day of the incident he was occupied with duties and had no reason to avoid facing the protesters.
On 7 August 2026, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the case of the People’s Movement for a Just Society (P-Move) and its network storming the Ministry of Interior, leading to clashes with officials on 6 August. He said preventive measures were put in place to stop the situation from worsening. The incident occurred at an unfortunate time since the three deputy ministers were not present at the ministry while he was busy welcoming the President of Myanmar. When the protesters moved into the ministry grounds and tried to push their way in, doors and glass were broken, and some people were injured. Such circumstances caused misunderstandings, for which he apologized.
The Prime Minister added that he had assigned Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri to promptly resolve the issue because the government must listen and explain the reasons. If the protesters wish to hold talks, the government is ready to arrange a meeting. He emphasized there is no reason for any minister to avoid the public. The problem on that day was that no minister was on site to hold immediate talks. However, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Phasakorn Boonyalak was present and engaged in dialogue to clarify the situation with the protesters. Both sides now have mutual understanding. He expressed regret and apologized again for the incident.
The Prime Minister concluded by explaining that the clashes stemmed from the protesters’ intrusion into the ministry grounds, which led the Territorial Defense Volunteers, responsible for security and order there, to hold their positions. When pushing and scuffles ensued, it resulted in injuries and initial communication breakdown. Moving forward, efforts will be expedited to solve the problems through proper processes.
