"Pradorn" has approved compensation for victims of the school shooting: 1 million baht per death, 700,000 baht for disability, 200,000 baht for severe injury, and 100,000 baht for minor injury.
On 7 August 2026 at the Office of the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister, Government House, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office Pradorn Prissanantakul chaired a meeting of the Public Disaster Relief Fund Committee. The meeting was attended by Yupa Taweewattanakitboworn, Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office and committee secretary, along with heads of government agencies and representatives from related organizations. They discussed criteria for compensating those deceased or injured in the shooting incident at Debsirin School, Nonthaburi Province. Yupa reported that the current fund balance stands at 254 million baht.
Minister Pradorn stated that the committee based its considerations on precedents from four past traumatic incidents with similar characteristics: the Terminal 21 shopping mall shooting in Nakhon Ratchasima Province; the shooting at a child development center in Nong Bua Lamphu Province; the youth shooting at Siam Paragon shopping center in Bangkok; and the school shooting at Patong Prathan Kirivat School in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province. The committee approved compensation amounts of 1,000,000 baht per death, 700,000 baht for disability, 200,000 baht for severe injury, and 100,000 baht for minor injury.
Minister Pradorn further explained that the shooting in Nonthaburi involved civilians, teachers, and students engaged in normal activities at the school, classifying the event as a "public disaster" under Regulation 3, which qualifies for assistance from the fund. Additional compensation follows Regulation 17 and the 2025 committee announcement: 50,000 baht for funeral expenses; 30,000 baht living support per deceased victim's family; and an extra 50,000 baht for families with children aged 25 or younger. The committee expects to expedite payments within a few days, compiling accurate figures on injured persons and verifying if other agencies will offer supplementary aid.
Minister Pradorn emphasized firearms control measures, citing the Ministry of Interior’s firm policy strictly prohibiting civilians from possessing or carrying firearms in public under any circumstances, except for state officials performing their duties. This policy will be strictly enforced. As a member of the House of Representatives, he intends to propose amendments to the Firearms Act to strengthen regulation and prevent future occurrences of such tragic events.
