Supamas appeals for cooperation to refrain from spreading distressing video clips of the school shooting, revealing her heartbroken feelings as a mother.
On 7 August 2026, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and Chairperson of the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund, stated that she has instructed government communication agencies to collaborate in managing information related to the violent incident at Debsirin School, Nonthaburi, which resulted in injuries and deaths. The incident has shocked the entire nation, and a large amount of unverified images, video clips, and information have been circulated online, affecting the mental well-being of bereaved families and causing societal confusion.
Ms. Supamas said the government deeply sympathizes with the families of the deceased and injured, and has ordered all agencies to urgently provide full assistance and support to those affected. Strict firearm measures have been imposed, banning weapons in public places, and legal reforms to control firearms are being prepared to prevent recurrence. She is closely monitoring the situation and understands the public's grief. Therefore, she urges all media outlets and platforms to refrain from publishing violent images, photos of the deceased, or content that harms the feelings of bereaved families across all channels. Reports should focus solely on confirmed facts and verified progress in assistance and support from official sources, avoid revealing identities of minors and others involved, and exclude details of the method of the attack to prevent copycat behavior.
Moreover, the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund is advancing support for producing creative media such as materials for psychological healing, promoting understanding of child and youth care, and raising awareness about media literacy. This media aims to be a positive force during difficult times. The incident serves as a warning for society to prevent bullying in schools, care for youth mental health, and foster warmth within families.
“As a mother myself, my heart is shattered today, no different from the parents and families affected by this incident. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the teachers and all victims. My duty is to provide accurate information to the public and protect bereaved families from further harm. In a wounded society, the media must be part of the healing process, not perpetuate violence. I ask society to stop sharing violent images and clips, because every re-share deepens the wounds of the bereaved,” Supamas concluded.
