He confirmed this is separate from the 1 million baht aid provided by the Prime Minister’s Office.
On 7 August 2026, Mr. Theerayut Kaewseng, Deputy Director-General and spokesperson of the Rights and Liberties Protection Department, explained the revised criteria for compensation and relief payments to victims of this shocking incident under the Victim Compensation and Defendant Expense Act. He stated that all deceased individuals, including adults and students, will receive 300,000 baht each. For those injured, medical expenses will be reimbursed up to 80,000 baht based on actual costs, and treatment can be received at any public or private hospital.
Compensation for physical and psychological rehabilitation is capped at 50,000 baht. Injury compensation varies by severity, assessed by treatment duration and symptom level, ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 baht. For cases such as loss of fingers, ears, or eyes, the maximum compensation is 300,000 baht. Loss of income will be compensated based on the province’s minimum wage rate for a maximum period of one year.
In cases involving student victims, if they have income from part-time work during their studies, this will also be considered in compensation. It was emphasized that the legal compensation from the Rights and Liberties Protection Department is a separate legal aid fund, distinct from the 1 million baht support from the Prime Minister’s Office fund. Therefore, those affected are entitled to receive compensation from both sources.
