The government is accelerating solutions to the impact of the Purple Line MRT at Wongwian Yai, gradually restoring traffic, while emphasizing that public safety is the top priority.
On 8 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Lalida Pertwivatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that Mr. Siripong Angkasagulkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport, along with related agencies, visited the site to monitor progress in addressing the ground subsidence at the Purple Line MRT project section from Tao Poon to Rat Burana (Wongwian Yai). They are expediting engineering measures to rehabilitate the area, assist affected individuals, and prepare to restore traffic as soon as possible, strictly prioritizing public safety.
The Deputy Spokesperson said that officials have so far conducted grouting at 40 locations to reinforce soil stability and plan to add about 80 more sites, expecting the work to take 2–3 months. During this period, they closely monitor and measure the movement of nearby buildings and structures, continuously assessing the area's stability before starting tunnel and structural repairs and gradually restoring the area and traffic based on engineering readiness.
Ms. Lalida added that after completing soil stabilization, related agencies will gradually lower water levels inside the tunnel to carefully inspect leakage points and determine appropriate repair methods. If necessary, advanced engineering measures will be promptly considered, always prioritizing the safety of the public and workers.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Transport emphasized and instructed all involved agencies to strictly follow academic and technical standards while accelerating the restoration of buildings and surrounding areas, as well as providing comprehensive assistance to affected residents.
In addition, he ordered phased reopening of areas and traffic lanes based on safety readiness to alleviate hardship and enable residents to resume daily life and business activities as quickly as possible.
