On 8 August 2026 at Wat Tonod, Nakhon Luang District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, Professor Dr. Yotchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, attended the water-pouring ceremony for Ms. Tiwaporn Vanich, head of the guidance department at Thepsirin School Nonthaburi, who died from the tragic event on 7 August.
The tragic event occurred when a student at Thepsirin School Nonthaburi used a firearm to shoot teachers and fellow students on campus, resulting in multiple injuries and deaths. This caused profound grief for the bereaved families and the wider community.
Upon arrival, Professor Dr. Yotchanan spoke with and offered encouragement to the family and relatives of the deceased, expressing sorrow over the loss of an educational staff member. He also represented Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is also Minister of Interior, and himself by presenting wreaths to honor and pay respects to the deceased.
