Worasit visited Koh Samui, emphasizing the protection of Thai people from harassment. He stressed that everyone, regardless of nationality, must respect Thai law and promised to resolve the tap water shortage.
On 8 Aug 2026, at the Koh Samui District Office meeting room in Surat Thani Province, Worasit Liangprasit, Deputy Minister of the Interior, chaired a meeting to follow up on issues affecting the residents of Koh Samui District.
Worasit said that following an incident on 5 Aug 2026 where a local business operator in Koh Samui was threatened with physical harm by a foreigner, administrative officers worked with police from Koh Samui Police Station, Surat Thani Immigration, forestry, and livestock officials to investigate. Investigators promptly prosecuted the foreigner under Thai law to ensure justice. He stressed this was not about nationality; anyone behaving inappropriately and placing themselves above the law, regardless of nationality, would not be tolerated. He thanked all parties for their commitment to maintaining Koh Samui as a welcoming place for residents and tourists alike.
“I emphasize that anyone behaving inappropriately must face legal consequences without exception. Koh Samui is a key tourist highlight of Thailand; we cannot allow misconduct to harm our home. We must work together to preserve Koh Samui as a livable, happy tourist city for everyone.”
Following that, Worasit held a meeting to monitor the Ministry of Interior’s operations in the area, listening to feedback on local problems and solutions requiring support from the government and the ministry, especially concerning the tap water shortage.
