The government is advancing the country's first "Open Government" plan, providing citizens greater access to information, enabling scrutiny, reducing corruption, and supporting Thailand's membership in the OECD.
On 9 August 2026, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the government is pushing for greater transparency and accountability in public sector operations through the concept of "Open Government." This approach allows citizens increased access to government data and greater participation in policy-making than before, which will enhance the quality of public services and reduce corruption.
The government spokesperson added that Thailand has joined the Open Government Partnership (OGP), and the Prime Minister has appointed a Multi-Stakeholder Forum (MSF) comprising government, civil society, private sector, media, and political representatives to jointly set policy directions since 22 July.
At the first MSF meeting on 6 August 2026, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt, the forum approved a four-part policy framework for drafting the country's first national action plan, including:
1. Anti-corruption efforts
2. Addressing climate change and environmental issues
3. Enhancing the justice system
4. Promoting citizen participation
"The goal of this initiative is to provide citizens with transparent, accountable government services that reduce corruption and improve access to public data—such as budget usage, procurement, and daily life-related public information—while opening channels for public feedback and greater involvement in policy-making. This will build trust in government administration and lessen corruption opportunities," the spokesperson said.
Next, relevant agencies will collaborate with partner networks to draft commitments and solicit feedback from all sectors before submitting the complete plan to the OGP Secretariat by December 2026.
Ms. Ratchada added that advancing open government is a key element aligned with the governance and transparency standards emphasized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Concrete implementation will boost international confidence in Thailand, support the government's goal of OECD membership, and create an environment conducive to investment, economic competition, and sustainable national development.
