Deputy Interior Minister Jeset has ordered all units to monitor the water situation in Nan Province 24 hours a day, assess conditions closely, and be ready to immediately escalate assistance if necessary. The water levels continue to be closely evaluated.
Today (9 August 2026) GMT+7 Mr. Jeset Thaiset, Deputy Minister of the Interior, said he has been closely monitoring the heavy rainfall and water levels of the Nan River in Nan Province after the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported flooding in the area. Currently, Wiang Sa District is experiencing flooding affecting 3 subdistricts, 6 villages, and 138 households. Relevant agencies have already provided initial assistance, and rainfall in the area has stopped.
Regarding the water level in Wiang Sa District, as of 16:30 today, the N.13A water level station on the Nan River in Wiang Sa recorded a water level of 8.36 meters, which is 1.86 meters above the riverbank level of 6.50 meters. The water level is rising at about 11 centimeters per hour. Rainfall in Wiang Sa was measured at 16.40 millimeters, according to the Hydro-Informatic Institute.
Meanwhile, coordination with the head of the DDPM Nan Province office indicated that the Nan River levels in Mueang Nan and Phu Phiang districts were expected to reach about 7 meters, the riverbank level, around 17:00 today. However, water barriers in these areas stand approximately 1.50 meters above the original riverbank, which is expected to help contain the water and reduce impact. Flooding may occur only in some low-lying areas. Officials continue to monitor and assess water levels closely.
Mr. Jeset stated he has instructed the DDPM Nan Province, local administrative organizations, and related agencies to monitor the situation around the clock, expedite assistance to affected residents, and prepare manpower, equipment, and necessary resources. If the situation worsens, they should be ready to escalate measures and respond immediately.
“I urge the people of Nan Province, especially those living in lowland and riverside areas, to closely watch and follow the situation. Please prepare by moving belongings to higher ground, relocating vehicles, securing valuables and important documents, beware of electrical hazards, and take special care of children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and vulnerable groups. If you receive alerts or instructions from officials, please follow them strictly.”
The Deputy Interior Minister emphasized that management of the situation is based on data and risk assessments to ensure that measures are appropriate, situation-specific, and most beneficial to the public. All units are closely monitoring water levels and rainfall, preparing personnel, equipment, and resources to escalate operations immediately if conditions change.
“The key is not to wait for an incident to happen before preparing. Officials are currently monitoring and assessing the situation closely, especially areas with rising water levels. If risks increase, we are ready to escalate measures and assist residents promptly, giving everyone time to prepare and respond safely.”
He also urged residents to continuously follow information from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Nan Province authorities, local administrative organizations, and government agencies. Residents can be confident in the work of all officials who are monitoring and assessing the situation closely, with personnel, equipment, and resources ready to respond immediately. Agencies have already provided initial assistance in affected areas and will expedite damage assessments and additional aid as needed.
The government will not wait for the situation to worsen before acting but will continuously monitor, assess risks, and be prepared to escalate assistance measures immediately when necessary to ensure safety and minimize impact on the people.
