Prime Minister Anutin and his wife, Ja Thananon, paid respects to the Supreme Patriarch by presenting offerings and paying homage to Somdet Phra Maha Wirawong on the occasion of the 2026 Buddhist Lent Festival.
At 09:30 on 10 August 2026, at Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram in Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok, Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul along with Mrs. Thananon Charnvirakul, his wife, paid respects to Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatayana, the Supreme Patriarch and Supreme Head of the Sangha. They presented offerings and paid homage to Somdet Phra Maha Wirawong on the occasion of the 2026 Buddhist Lent Festival.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister and his wife laid a garland at the royal memorial statue of King Chulalongkorn beside the ubosot. Afterwards, they paid respects to Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatayana at Phuchongprathansit 1 building to present offerings including incense, candles, Buddhist Lent candles, flower bouquets, monk robes, and traditional Thai offerings, and received a royal address for the 2026 Buddhist Lent Festival.
Additionally, the Prime Minister and his wife paid respects to Somdet Phra Maha Wirawong at the Samrit Witthayakon building, presenting offerings including incense, candles, flower bouquets, monk robes, and traditional Thai offerings, and listened to a Dharma sermon. The Deputy Government Spokesperson further stated that presenting offerings during the Buddhist Lent Festival continues the cherished customs of Thai Buddhists and reflects the importance of supporting and preserving Buddhism. It also encourages Buddhists to practice good deeds, study and apply the Dharma, to maintain the stability and continuity of Buddhism.
