The Minister of Tourism and Sports has proposed the 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' project to stimulate the green season, awaiting the Ministry of Finance to finalize funding sources and details.
On 10 August 2026 at the Government House, Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, revealed during a press conference of the Subcommittee on Trade Development, Tourism, and Community Economy about the progress of the 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' project. After presenting it for the subcommittee's information, he said the ministry proposed measures to stimulate domestic tourism following feedback from the private sector. Initially, the plan supports partial expenses to encourage travel, generating income for hotels, restaurants, service sectors, and local businesses, especially in popular and secondary tourist cities.
The core details of the project are still being finalized, including conditions for participating hotels, support for other service sectors beyond food and restaurants, and the platform to be used for implementation. Initially, the 'Pao Tang' system of Krungthai Bank is considered the main channel. The funding source is still under review by the Ministry of Finance. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mr. Anek Niti Nitithanprapas will decide whether to use loans or the central budget, choosing the most suitable option based on objectives and the economic situation.
Mr. Surasak added that once the funding amount is confirmed, the backend system of the application must be prepared to support registration of participating businesses. This will require some time to finalize details before moving forward. Regarding the timing, if the project can launch in the green season, the private sector agrees it is appropriate as it helps boost demand during less crowded tourism periods and better distributes income to local areas. However, if the process extends toward the high season, they may need to revisit private sector feedback since different periods affect the types of measures suitable.
It is expected that the project details, funding sources, and system readiness will be finalized within this week or, at the latest, by next week.
