At 13:05 on 10 August 2026 GMT+7 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yotsanan Wongsawat, spoke at the Government House about measures following the shooting incident at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi, stating that Prasert Chantraruangthong, Minister of Education, will present six national school safety measures to the Cabinet meeting on 11 August. This is to allow other ministries to provide additional feedback and implement actions. There have already been responses directed at various schools. Soon, there will be discussions with the Secretary of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of Thailand to consult on psychological matters. From now on, this is not just the Ministry of Education's responsibility but must be raised to a national level due to the sensitivity of the issue, which goes beyond students alone.
When asked about observations that teachers may have pressured students leading to this incident, Yotsanan said the problem must be addressed comprehensively involving the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, and coordination with the Royal College of Psychiatrists to ensure a unified approach. The planning has been seriously elevated.
Regarding the case at a school in Hat Yai district, Songkhla province, where a foreign contract teacher was dismissed but later threatened harm, Yotsanan said the Ministry of Education is already handling the matter. He emphasized that safety is the utmost priority for both staff and students.
