At 15:10 on 10 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul gave an interview at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani while presiding over the opening ceremony of the Pra Teep Thai OTOP Arts and Crafts event, Uniting Hearts by Royal Grace 2026, at the main stage in Challenger Hall 2, regarding the case of Chalong Riewrang, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nonthaburi, who attacked and shot Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenprasert, Chief Executive of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization, resulting in his death. He said full action must be taken without exceptions and that he understands investigators have opposed bail. Legally, full prosecution must proceed, including charges of carrying a firearm. He added that he had said earlier that carrying a firearm, even with a license, is not allowed.
When asked about the fact that the suspect is a former politician, Anutin shook his head before saying, “Who he was does not matter because now he is a murderer.” When further asked whether Chalong had resigned from the Bhumjaithai Party, Anutin replied that he has not seen him for a long time and therefore does not know if he resigned, as Chalong has had no role in the party.
