Nurse Pataraporn, President of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, revealed the timeline explaining the progress regarding a People’s Party councilor pressing cards inside the council chamber. She ordered a complete collection of CCTV evidence and extended the council session to allow the establishment of a fact-finding committee on 17 August.
On 10 August 2026, Ms. Pataraporn Kengrungreungchai, President of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, explained the course of action regarding the incident where a councilor from Yannawa District of the People’s Party pressed cards in the Bangkok Metropolitan Council to ensure transparency and fairness for all parties involved.
Ms. Pataraporn stated that after the incident on 31 July, as council president, she did not remain passive and instructed the council secretariat to gather relevant CCTV footage to prepare for submission to the fact-finding committee and external authorities with legal power as soon as requested. These actions were carried out under her authority as president, as follows.
On Friday, 31 July, she immediately sent an urgent letter to the Bangkok Metropolitan Council Secretariat to verify the number and type of recordings from cameras inside the council chamber, including footage from contractors responsible for live streaming within the council meeting room.
On Monday, 3 August, the council president provided preliminary information in the Bangkok Metropolitan Council meeting, as seen in the live broadcast of the session.
On Tuesday, 4 August, after receiving preliminary information about the number and type of recordings from cameras in the meeting room, she sent an urgent letter to the Secretariat to deliver the recording of the 31 July council meeting from 14:00 to 16:00 immediately.
On Thursday, 6 August, the council president received a letter from the Secretariat containing a complaint by Srisuwan Janya submitted to the Bangkok Metropolitan Council on 3 August. The complaint had been reviewed for format and content by the Secretariat.
On Friday, 7 August, the council president expedited adding an agenda item to the Bangkok Metropolitan Council meeting to consider establishing a fact-finding committee on 17 August. She issued an order to extend the council session from the original end date of 12 August to 27 August.
This extension was necessary because from 5 August to 15 September is the period for reviewing the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s budget expenditures. Councilors must fulfill their legal duties during this time, which includes simultaneous meetings of more than 20 subcommittees. Scheduling urgent council meetings could affect these legally mandated tasks, which must be completed within 45 days. Therefore, the agenda to establish the fact-finding committee was set for Monday, 17 August, the earliest date with only one special budget subcommittee meeting.
On 17 August, under the Bangkok Metropolitan Council Members’ Code of Ethics 2016, councilors as members must nominate three individuals for the fact-finding committee. If more than three are nominated, a vote will be held to reach a decision. The committee will independently investigate the facts and related evidence before submitting their findings to the council president for further action according to the regulations.
