At 09:10 on 11 Aug 2026 GMT+7 Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Industry, spoke at the Government House before the cabinet meeting regarding the proposal for cabinet consideration of the transfer, of Natthapon Rangsitpol, Permanent Secretary of Industry, to serve as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy. He said, "I understand that there has been such an approach." When reporters asked if the nomination would be ready for the cabinet meeting today, Warawut said it depends on whether the documents arrive in time. Asked if the approach had occurred, Warawut confirmed it had. He added that whether the paperwork will be ready must be confirmed with the Secretariat of the Cabinet.
Regarding the reason for the transfer, Warawut explained, that the Permanent Secretary has completed the four-year term. The officials involved are capable individuals, and since the Ministry of Energy was previously under the Ministry of Industry, it is plausible that the minister has interest and has made the approach. Warawut also said he had previously discussed this with Ekkanat Promphan, Minister of Energy. As for the paperwork, it must follow regulations.
When asked about the selection process for the new Permanent Secretary of Industry, Warawut said they must find a suitable person but first confirm if the nomination can be submitted to the cabinet in time and verify the documents carefully. Asked if the usual long-term placements for Permanent Secretaries would influence the criteria, Warawut said they consider many aspects, including urgent tasks and who is best suited for each mission and position. When pressed if internal candidates will be given opportunities to advance, Warawut admitted that, based on discussions so far, the candidates are from within the ministry.
