Mr. Somsak Thongsri Deputy Prime Minister, overseeing the National Water Resources Office (NWRO), spoke before attending the Cabinet meeting about preparations to handle the El Niño phenomenon, which could cause drought. He said nine measures have been prepared to address flood and drought problems.
When asked if the budget for relief assistance is ready, Mr. Somsak said the regular budget of the provincial Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DPM), which already operates in prevention and relief, will initially be used. There is existing budget for care, but if there is a shortfall, central funds can be accessed.
