Dr. Sorn is confident he has done nothing wrong and insists he continues to serve as NBTC chairman. He hinted that he already has options in mind and questioned how treating patients could affect the NBTC. He has been a doctor his entire life and carries out his duties with integrity.
At 06:45 on 12 August 2026 at Sanam Luang, Dr. Sorn Boonbaichayapruk, chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), spoke about his duties going forward. He said, “Let's take today first. Today, I still perform my role as NBTC chairman with loyalty. I have already heard from the news that the Prime Minister has submitted my name for royal consideration to be removed from the position.”
When asked how he would proceed at the next NBTC board meeting, Dr. Sorn replied, “We'll see. Let's take today first. I am still serving as NBTC chairman on National Mother's Day with loyalty. I'll think about tomorrow.” Asked about repeated walkouts at previous meetings and how the NBTC would move forward, he said, “Wait until 13 August.” When pressed on whether he had already decided on a path forward, he said, “There are several options to choose from, and people must have choices. How I decide, we'll see.”
Asked if he had no concerns now, Dr. Sorn said, “I was a doctor before being appointed. I am an honest person. I haven't stolen from anyone or harmed anyone. I treat patients with confidence.”
When asked about legal experts saying no profession is exempt and all disqualifications apply, Dr. Sorn said that before his appointment, he practiced medicine and could not imagine how treating patients would affect the NBTC.
Asked if his plan going forward is to keep moving forward or remain still, Dr. Sorn said, “I am a lifelong doctor and have done nothing wrong.”
