The Prime Minister led an almsgiving ceremony with 193 monks to pay royal homage on the occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s birthday and National Mother's Day on 12 August 2026 GMT+7.
On 12 August 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that at 07:00 at Sanam Luang, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul and his wife Thanon Charnvirakul presided over a Buddhist chanting and almsgiving ceremony to pay royal homage on Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s birthday and National Mother's Day.
The ceremony was attended by the Privy Council members and their spouses, the Speakers of Parliament, the Supreme Court President, the Senate President, heads of constitutional organizations, Cabinet members and their spouses, the Secretary to the Prime Minister, royal household officials, the Governor of Bangkok, military commanders, the National Police Chief and his wife, senior civil servants at the permanent secretary level or equivalent, and representatives from the private sector.
Upon the arrival of the Prime Minister and his wife at Sanam Luang, ten senior monks took their seats on the dais. The Prime Minister lit incense and candles to pay respect to the Triple Gem and lit incense and candles in front of the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. Then officials invited the ten senior monks to give the Five Precepts, followed by chanting by the monks.
Afterwards, the Prime Minister and his wife, Privy Council members, the Speakers of Parliament, the Supreme Court President, the Senate President, and heads of constitutional organizations presented robes and offerings to the ten monks. The Prime Minister poured water in a ceremonial libation, paid respects to the Triple Gem, and paid homage before the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother.
The Prime Minister and his wife then led the participants in offering alms to 193 monks, concluding the ceremony.
