On 12 August 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Laksameesangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed the government's achievements in addressing unlicensed hotels, cracking down on nominee businesses, and maintaining order in Phuket province. This follows directives from Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, who instructed urgent and continuous measures to resolve these issues.
Ms. Ploytale stated that due to the determined and continuous efforts of the Ministry of Interior and related agencies, the backlog of hotel license applications in Phuket dating back to 2018, totaling 392 hotels, has been actively addressed. So far, 275 licenses have been issued, leaving only 117 remaining, with completion expected by September 2026. This marks clear and tangible progress compared to the previous annual issuance of only 30-40 licenses. Within just two months under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's leadership, over 75% of the backlog has been resolved.
"For those seeking hotel licenses in Phuket but facing legal and regulatory obstacles, data on these issues is being gathered to propose fair and consistent legal and regulatory amendments. The government prioritizes safety above all and aims for operators to enter the system without corruption. The government confirms it will rigorously enforce the law; many cases are already under police investigation, with others in evidence collection stages for further action. There will be no exceptions—any illegal actions will be decisively prosecuted."
