Pramuan Rujanaseri, former Deputy Minister of Interior during the Thaksin government, former Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, and author of the book "Royal Authority," passed away at age 87. He was also the father of the current governor of Kamphaeng Phet Province.
At 11:00 a.m. on 12 August 2026, reporters received an initial report that Mr. Pramuan Rujanaseri former governor of Kamphaeng Phet Province, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, and former Deputy Minister of Interior, had peacefully passed away at age 87. Pramuan was the father of Mr. Chatip Rujanaseri, the current governor of Kamphaeng Phet.
The preliminary schedule includes a water-pouring ceremony on 14 August 2026, a Buddhist prayer service from 14 to 18 August 2026 at 7:00 p.m., and the royal cremation ceremony on 19 August 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Wat Chonprathan Rangsarit in Bangkok.
Mr. Krit Kaserttip, former Deputy Director-General of the Department of Corrections and former commander of Bangkok Special Prison, posted a message expressing condolences onFacebook.It stated: "I express my condolences on the passing of Mr. Pramuan Rujanaseri, former Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration. He was a role model administrator who loved and cared deeply for the nation. He was dedicated to upholding standards of good governance and building a moral civil service. During his tenure as Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, he refused to accept political favors for school admissions in the district, which led to his transfer to Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. He began practicing Dharma seriously and developed a devotion to Buddhism since he was Deputy Governor of Kamphaeng Phet at just over 40 years old. I am proud to have once served as his chief of staff. May his soul rest in peace in the afterlife."
Mr. Pramuan Rujanaseri was born on 21 March 1939, aged 87, from Mae Sariang Subdistrict, Mae Sariang District, Mae Hong Son Province. He was married to Mrs. Wanphen Rujanaseri and had three children. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science from Thammasat University.
Throughout his career, Pramuan served in the Ministry of Interior until retirement as Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration. He later entered politics as deputy leader of the Thai Rak Thai Party, served as a party-list member of parliament for Thai Rak Thai, Deputy Minister of Interior, and advisor to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
During Thailand's political crisis from 2005 to 2007, when Mr. Senah Thienthong, advisor to Thai Rak Thai, began disagreeing with Thaksin, Pramuan, who was close to Senah, authored two notable books: "Power as a Natural Human Trait" and "Royal Authority." Particularly, the book "Royal Authority" drew significant attention. Phee Malakul Na Ayudhya conveyed that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej had read the manuscript and remarked, "We have read it. We like it very much. It is well written and accurate."
Later, during the 2006 ouster of Thaksin, who then held the rank of Police Lieutenant Colonel, at Sanam Luang, Pramuan spoke on stage alongside Senah. He subsequently joined the Pracharat Party but resigned in mid-2007 to pursue politics independently. There were reports he might join the Democrat Party if his own party failed to form, but ultimately he founded the Prachamati Party and served as its leader.
