The government is driving the Thailand Zero Dropout policy, having reintegrated over 30,000 children and youth who had dropped out of the education system back into school already.
On 12 August 2026, Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that the government, through the Ministry of Education, has accelerated efforts to track and bring back children who have dropped out of education. They use accurate data to plan education management aligned with the number of children in each area, ensuring every child has equal learning opportunities and no one is left behind.
Under the Thailand Zero Dropout policy in Bangkok, authorities have tracked 58,485 out-of-school children and youth and successfully reintegrated 30,968 into the education system. The remaining individuals are being followed up on individually to identify causes and find appropriate ways to help them return to formal or non-formal education. Additionally, the government has approved basic education through families, or homeschooling, for 153 families, allowing them to design learning aligned with the learners’ potential and context under set guidelines.
Regarding concerns about the continuous decline in student numbers in Bangkok that could lead to more small schools, the deputy spokesperson stated that relevant agencies have been instructed to compile a 10-year database of student statistics under the Office of the Basic Education Commission in Bangkok. This database will analyze trends in school transfers and dropout rates. The data will be used to plan school management, budget allocation, and effectively respond to changing learner trends in each area.
