Government Reports 10-Month Success in Cracking Down on Illegal Goods with 32,812 Cases, Tobacco Violations Most Frequent

The government showcased its achievements in cracking down on illegal excise goods, reporting a total of 32,812 cases over 10 months, with fines amounting to 901.82 million baht. Tobacco-related offenses were the most frequent, totaling 20,160 cases.

On 13 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Laksamisaengchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that the government is intensifying measures to prevent and suppress illegal excise goods nationwide, particularly focusing on smuggled cigarettes, which remain the most frequently detected illegal goods causing revenue losses to the state and adversely affecting businesses operating legally.

Ms. Ploytale stated that the government, through the Excise Department of the Ministry of Finance, has integrated cooperation with security and related agencies to enhance investigations, intelligence, and proactive operations to continuously intercept tax-evading smuggling networks. Following government policy and directives from Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, the crackdown on excise law violations nationwide in fiscal year 2026 over 10 months (1 Oct 2025 – 31 Jul 2026) resulted in 32,812 cases with fines totaling 901.82 million baht and estimated fines of 4,508.18 million baht. Tobacco violations remain the highest with 20,160 cases, accounting for over 61% of all cases, fines of 609.39 million baht, and estimated fines of 4,376.97 million baht, with seizures of 4,862,367 packs of tobacco.

"The integrated operations among related agencies have increased the efficiency of cracking down on illegal goods, enabling significant seizures nationwide across all types of excise goods. The government continues to enhance the efficiency of state revenue collection alongside serious enforcement against tax-evading smuggling to ensure fairness for law-abiding businesses and protect the nation’s interests," she added.
