Sihasak visits Russia to co-chair the 9th JC meeting and leads the Thai private sector in expanding trade and investment ahead of the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
On 13 August 2026, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived in Moscow, Russian Federation, at 19:30 local time on 12 August (about four hours behind Thailand) for a visit from 12 to 15 August 2026. He will co-chair the 9th Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JC) meeting and meet key government and private sector figures to advance comprehensive bilateral relations. He will also drive economic diplomacy policies to promote economic, trade, and investment cooperation with Russia. Accompanying him is a delegation of Thai businesspeople from sectors such as agriculture and food, energy, and health products to explore trade and investment expansion opportunities between the two countries.
On 13 August, the Deputy Prime Minister will begin his agenda by meeting Mr. Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission, as well as Mr. Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia. He will also hold discussions with Mr. Ivan Demchenko, Chairman of the Russian-Thai Business Council.
Additionally, Mr. Sihasak is scheduled to co-chair the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JC) meeting as part of the 9th Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between Thailand and Russia. This will be followed by a press conference and a luncheon hosted by Mr. Aleksey Chekunkov, Russian Minister for the Far East and Arctic Development and Russian JC co-chair.
Mr. Sihasak will hold bilateral talks with Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and participate in signing the 6th Thailand-Russia Foreign Ministries Consultation Plan (2026-2030).
Thailand and the Russian Federation share a longstanding close relationship. Russia is Thailand’s number one trading partner within the Eurasian Economic Union and is the largest source of tourists from Europe to Thailand. Both countries will celebrate the 130th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027.
