Abhisit Requests Time to Investigate After Talks with Chaiyanach, DPP Secretary-General Emphasizes Legal Process

Abhisit revealed he has spoken with Chaiyanach and is requesting time to verify the facts after Chaiyanach was reported for assaulting the deputy superintendent. Meanwhile, Chaiwat confirmed that the process must follow the law and that the Democrat Party will not intervene.

At 12:30 p.m. on 13 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Abhisit Vejjajiva, party-list MP and Democrat Party leader, gave a brief interview regarding Chaiyanach Dechdecho, party-list MP and deputy party leader, who has been charged with assaulting (slapping the ear of) the deputy superintendent of Thung Yai Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat during a funeral. He said the party is thoroughly investigating the matter. Initially, he has spoken with Chaiyanach but requests time to verify the facts first. Once details are confirmed, they will be announced.

"Democrat Party Secretary-General: Let the law take its course"

Meanwhile, Chaiwat Bannawat, party-list MP and Democrat Party Secretary-General, said he is not yet aware of the details or facts because he has not spoken with Chaiyanach. Regarding reports that charges have been filed, he said the matter must proceed according to legal processes, and the party will not interfere or intervene. The party has procedures to follow: if the issue causes damage to the party, all sides must be heard and facts verified. Currently, the party does not know the facts of Chaiyanach's case but is not ignoring the situation. The party must comply with internal rules, such as appointing a committee to investigate the facts. However, since the matter is now in the legal process, it must be allowed to proceed accordingly.
