The Election Commission voted 5-2 to approve Saweang Boonmee's assessment, allowing him to continue as Secretary-General of the Election Commission until the end of his contract on March 31, 2027.
On 13 August 2026 at 1:00 p.m., at the Election Commission office, it was reported that The Election Commission held a closed meeting to review the fiscal year 2025 performance of Saweang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, and voted 5-2 to approve his assessment, enabling him to remain in the position until his contract ends on 31 March 2027.
Regarding this performance assessment, it follows the current Election Commission meeting's 5-2 vote to annul the previous evaluation for fiscal year 2025 by the Election Commission chaired by Ittiporn Boonprakong, which had rated Saweang below the 60% performance threshold. Had the current commission upheld that decision, Saweang would have been forced to leave his position per contract conditions.
However, since the current Election Commission determined that the contract grants the sitting commission the authority to evaluate performance, and historically commissions no longer in office have not conducted assessments of the current commission, they voted on 15 July to cancel the prior evaluation under Ittiporn's chairmanship. The current commission took over the evaluation of Saweang's performance, and today they met and voted to approve his assessment.
