The Parliamentary Legal Committee received a complaint from Bang Phlat residents opposing the Chao Phraya Riverside Road, pointing out that the area has a cultural identity over 100 years old and should be preserved. It was revealed that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) notified they would halt the project, but the status on the website remains active.
At 1:00 p.m. on 13 August 2026, Rangsima Rom, Member of Parliament (party-list) from the Prachachon Party and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights, received a letter from Nisanat Yothasamut, representative of the opposition group against the road behind the Chao Phraya River embankment in Bang Phlat district, Bangkok, along with affected residents, requesting the committee to monitor and oversee the road construction project.
Nisanat said the opposition arises from the desire to protect their fundamental rights and preserve the area's cultural heritage that is over a hundred years old. Residents of the Bang O Mosque community in Bangkok oppose the construction of the road behind the embankment along the Chao Phraya River. The 264-million-baht project aims to build a bicycle path. They urge relevant authorities to reconsider. Previously, the group submitted a petition to Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok. After the recent Bangkok gubernatorial election, the BMA announced that the project would be halted. However, upon checking the BMA website, the project status remains listed as ongoing, causing concern among civil society groups, who have now appealed to the Legal Committee to investigate the project.
Rangsima stated that the committee will gather information and affirmed their role in monitoring the area on behalf of the public. They will also listen to all relevant parties and prioritize the interests of the people.
