Government Promotes One Village One Electrician Program to Upskill EV and Solar Panel Installations

The government is upgrading community electricians' skills by promoting the “One Village One Electrician” program to enhance capabilities in installing EV chargers and solar panels, while creating jobs and income to support the transition toward the rapidly growing clean energy Solar Rooftop sector.

On 14 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykong, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government prioritizes developing Thai labor skills to keep pace with technological changes, especially the transition to clean energy and the rapidly expanding use of solar energy (Solar Rooftop) across households, businesses, and industry.

Previously, there was collaboration between the Department of Skill Development, Ministry of Labor, and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to develop electrical technician skills. From 2017 to 2025, they jointly implemented the “One Subdistrict One Electrician” project, training community electricians in wiring installation and upgrading labor skills, successfully certifying 8,385 people. In 2026, the scope expands nationwide with the upgraded “One Village One Electrician” initiative.

Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi stated the government approved the “One Village One Electrician” plan covering 75,668 villages nationwide. The program aims to address electrical safety issues in communities and develop professional community electricians with certified standards, ensuring stable incomes for local residents. The target is to train 3,700 individuals from September to December 2026.

The training curriculum for the “One Village One Electrician” project includes: 1. Community electrician skills focusing on installing indoor electrical systems compliant with safety standards; 2. Installation and maintenance of solar power generation systems (solar panels), enhancing knowledge and skills to meet professional and safety standards; and 3. Installation of EV Home Charging, developing skills to install electric vehicle charging units at residences according to installation and safety standards, supporting the growth of Thailand's electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
