He urged Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to launch comprehensive gun searches nationwide, pointing out that with 70 million people but 10 million gun owners, the situation is unsustainable. Measures should assure that everyone—whether in schools or public places—feels safe. The Prime Minister has clearly stated that the key is to encourage everyone to see firearms as useless to anyone. If used, even in extreme cases, legal proceedings must follow. The message is intended to discourage people from being near guns.
When asked if the government would soon implement measures, Thanakorn said the government is currently drafting new detailed laws, addressing not only high firearm possession but also illegal guns. He believes the government will crack down decisively. Legal firearms must be inspected and their carrying and use strictly controlled. If these measures proceed earnestly, illegal guns and public carrying of weapons will surely decrease.

I want all parties—government and opposition—to cooperate quickly on these strategies instead of arguing about whether shooting intruders at home is right or wrong, or misleading the public into thinking the government plans to ban self-defense at home.
