On 14 Aug 2026 at the Democrat Party headquarters, Pongsakorn Khwanmuang, the party's spokesperson, stated that he urges Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to address firearm problems comprehensively, covering illegal online firearm sales, which remain freely accessible. He expressed concern that after the Prime Minister ordered a halt to issuing gun purchase licenses (P.3), possession licenses (P.4), and carry permits (P.12), ordinary citizens can no longer legally own guns. This also affects newly graduated police officers who cannot obtain firearms needed for their duties. Since legal guns are now inaccessible, illegal firearms will likely spread more, as they are easily bought online. When police cannot access guns but criminals can, law enforcement cannot effectively combat crime. The Prime Minister must address this issue thoroughly. When asked about inspecting politicians who possess many guns, Pongsakorn said he believes some politicians have firearms in their possession. The key issue to address is preventing guns from changing hands, as loopholes remain. For example, former Nonthaburi MP Chalerm Ruangreng was found to possess guns involved in incidents and another firearm that had been sold and transferred. Similar cases of violent offenders possessing guns show the need to expedite seizure, inspection, and prevent gun transfers to reduce the risk of repeated crimes.
