The Disaster Prevention Committee is moving quickly to address cross-border water pollution, sending an invitation to "Suchart" to discuss solutions next Wednesday.
On 14 Aug 2026, Patthapong Leelaphat, Member of Parliament for Chiang Mai District 8 from the People's Party and chairman of the Disaster Prevention Committee, announced that an invitation letter was sent to Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, requesting his personal attendance at a meeting with the Subcommittee on Cross-Border Water Pollution on Wednesday, 19 Aug 2026. The key agenda is to review and jointly discuss the Terms of Reference (TOR) between Thailand and Myanmar to manage the prolonged and persistent cross-border water pollution problem.
Patthapong stated that the cross-border toxic water issue currently impacts the public widely, affecting water resources, food security, public health, and the local economic system. He hopes the minister will respond promptly to join the meeting. Additionally, the invitation provides flexibility: if Suchart has critical commitments on that date and time, he can propose an alternative schedule to the subcommittee, which is willing to adjust the meeting time to fit the minister's agenda to facilitate collaborative problem-solving.
“Our work today focuses primarily on benefiting the people. The subcommittee has prepared all necessary information; it depends solely on whether the minister will receive this information and use it to move forward,” Patthapong concluded.
