Sihasak held bilateral talks with Lavrov to advance comprehensive Thailand-Russia relations, accelerate the Thai-EAEU FTA to reduce trade barriers, and signed a new consultation plan to elevate diplomatic relations on the occasion of their 130th anniversary.
On 15 August 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Puangketkaew met with Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, in Moscow. Both sides discussed ways to promote all-round cooperation between Thailand and Russia, including politics, security, trade and investment, agriculture, tourism, and culture. The Thai side pushed for facilitation and reduction of trade barriers and sought support to expedite the start of Free Trade Agreement negotiations between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Moreover, both parties exchanged views on international and regional issues, particularly geopolitical contexts, ASEAN-Russia cooperation, other regional cooperation frameworks, the situation in Myanmar, and the Thailand-Cambodia relationship.
On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand and the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation jointly signed the sixth consultation plan between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (2026–2030). This plan sets the framework for discussions and advances cooperation between the two foreign ministries, aiming to elevate Thailand-Russia relations, which will mark their 130th diplomatic anniversary in 2027.
