Chaiyachonok announces readiness to face opposition's no-confidence debate, confident in using the opportunity to showcase achievements.
On 17 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Chaiyachonok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES) and secretary-general of the Bhumjaithai Party, spoke about the opposition's planned no-confidence debate. He said every ministry must be continuously prepared, and he has been gathering key points and information from the opposition throughout his work. He views the debate as a normal political process that must happen, so the focus should be on continuing to work diligently.
When asked if he was concerned about being seen as a "lightning rod" minister, Chaiyachonok confidently replied that he was not worried. He sees being a lightning rod as something to be used beneficially—it has pros and cons. On the positive side, if one has achievements and does good work for the supervised agency, it attracts special attention, so it is not necessarily a bad thing.
Asked if he was worried about the debate being politically linked to Newin Chidchob, chairman of Buriram United Football Club and his father, the DES minister said it was inevitable. Since he holds the position of secretary-general in the ruling party, connections and political links are natural and to be expected.
