The Army spokesperson announced that the brave soldier is now safe after being injured during a bomb disposal mission at the Chong An Ma border. The soldier was sent to Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital, with commanders ordering full welfare support.
On 17 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Major General Winthai Suwaree, Army spokesperson, stated that personnel were injured while participating in a mine clearance mission with the National Mine Action Center (TMAC) near Chong An Ma. The incident occurred as TMAC officers were clearing mines near Chong An Ma in Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. This area was previously encroached upon by Cambodian forces, who established a base during a past conflict. Thai forces later pushed the Cambodian soldiers back and designated the area as hazardous. TMAC personnel have since been tasked with inspecting and clearing mines to ensure safety in the region.
From this incident, personnel sustained injuries to the right ankle, right hand, and other body wounds. The injured individual is currently conscious and in stable condition, undergoing treatment at Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital.
Major General Winthai added that the Army expresses regret over the incident. Initially, commanders have instructed the relevant units to provide the injured personnel with the best possible care and full support.
