
Surachak visited Spanish tourists injured by a fallen tree in Ayutthaya, ordering the best care and compensation. He urged agencies to coordinate with the Fine Arts Department and Historical Park to promptly inspect large trees to prevent similar incidents.
17 Aug 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Surachak Pancharoenworakun, Minister of Tourism and Sports, traveled to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province to visit, encourage, and monitor the condition of four Spanish tourists injured after a large peacock tree fell along the walkway beside Wat Phra Si Sanphet, inside the Ayutthaya Historical Park in the afternoon of 16 August. He closely followed the assistance efforts and updates on the injuries of all four tourists as follows.
Officials from the Tourist Assistance Center (TAC) in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, along with tourist police, facilitated and safely escorted the two female tourists back to their accommodations. Staff continue to coordinate and care for this tour group throughout their stay.
Meanwhile, Mr. Surachak ordered agencies under the Ministry of Tourism to coordinate with the Fine Arts Department and Ayutthaya Historical Park to urgently assess the stability of large trees along pathways in the ancient site to prevent recurrence. He concluded by stating: “The Ministry of Tourism and Sports expresses condolences to the four injured tourists. We affirm our commitment to provide the best treatment and compensation to restore confidence that Thailand has rapid emergency medical response measures and is prepared to ensure visitor safety in all situations.”
